The 2025 Jimmy Beans Blanket Club
Swatching and Blocking is important!!
The Beachy Keen color pallete, we’re starting at the Top with Sage Advice.
The 2025 Blanket Club is on it’s way. Let the fun begin!!
I’m so excited to get started and let me tell you, Kit No.1 is the perfect starter kit!! So much goodness is happening that I don’t even know where to start. LOL! So let me tell you about the new Beanstalk yarn first, it’s made of 100% acrylic which feels amazing to the touch and there’s no splitting when crocheting. The Beachy Keen version has a dreamy palette and the club kicks off with Color A - SAGE ADVICE. It’s a win win!!
Wondering if you’ll have the skills to crochet all the stitches and techniques required?
This is an intermediate pattern, however I do feel an advanced beginner could totally make this blanket. Lena Skvagerson has included some fantastic videos for some of the instructions/techniques and there’s always Mr. Google available to help. Patience is key and swatching is your best friend!
Here are my tips for Kit No.1
SWATCH SWATCH SWATCH - its crucial that you meet the correct gauge - I swatched 3 times and finally ended up using a 4mm hook to meet gauge! It doesn’t matter what hook size you use as long as you meet gauge, this will ensure your blanket will be the recommended size and all the pieces will join seamlessly, AND… you will not run out of yarn.
Stripe 1 - Linen Stitch is pretty straight forward and uses basic stitches, single and half double crochets… easy peasy! Caution at Row 8, make sure you’re working in the horizontal front bar - 3rd loop, this pushes the other 2 loops of your half double crochet forward to form that wonderful little braid like or V on the front of your fabric. The stripe should measure 24” in length when blocked.
Stripe 2 - Basic Cable is loads of fun and uses “Special Stitches” standing single crochet, extended single crochet as well as back & front post double and treble crochets. The trickiest part of the cable section is knowing where to place the back and front double and treble crochets. The cable is worked over 4 stitches, you’ll skip 2 stitches then create the posts required and go back the skipped stitches to work the next 2 posts, this creates the twist/cable. On the following row, you’ll have to look closely to identify the post as they might appear a little hidden, I like to use my fingers to feel where they are because those little buggers are sneaky. Once the cable sections are complete the piece should measure 24” (don’t forget to factor in BLOCKING). Then you work the side edges, the lengths of the piece with right side facing, cutting the yarn after each section and VOILA! you’re done and moving on to the block.
Block 1 - This is a quick 5 round block that will be continued later with a different color. The stitches used in this block are front post treble crochet, double crochet and BLO (back loop only), half double crochet as well as single crochet. Block 1 measures 4” after blocking. You’ll have this one done in no time at all.
It’s not to late to join the club.
