Spring is in the air!
This month’s color, Misty Morning, is like a breath of fresh air.
What’s happening in this month’s Kit?
This month we are adding to the stripes and blocks we made in the previous months and starting a new block using Color D - Misty Morning! This might just be my favorite color so far.
My tips for Kit #4
I don’t know why I didn’t think of this beforehand, however, it might be a great idea to take the yarn label and pin it to the remaining yarn, so you don’t have to figure out which color is which when you need to use it in the pattern.
Stripe 6 Box Pattern - We are working into the stitches from Stripe 5. This stripe is made using Color D and Color B. This is a fun addition to Stripe 5, the double crochet in the next skipped single crochet 3 rows below (dc in next sk sc 3 rows below) results in a beautiful box design. If you need help knowing where to locate the skipped 3 rows below you can watch the video created by the designer Lena Skvagerson. When blocked Stripe 6 - Color D should measure 24” in length and 2” in width. (Total width of Stripe is now 10”)
Stripe 7 Checker Board - I absolutely love the checker board design made using all 4 colors. With this Stripe we are working into the stitches of Stripe 4 with some single crochets, skipped stitches and double crochets resulting in a fun and interesting design. When working in the rows below, make sure you are enclosing the chain space of the previous row, this is key to create the checker board effect. This one’s a no brainer and so fun to make that I didn’t want it to end. When blocked Stripe 7 should measure 24” in length and 3” in width. (Total width of Stripe is now 6.25”)
Block 4 continued - We are adding one more quick round to Block 4, in which we previously added 3 rounds to the circle made in the original Kit #2. Nothing difficult with this round, who doesn’t love a quick round LOL! Blocked measurement is 5” square.
Up next, another new block!
Block 6 - This block begins with Color D, we work Rounds 1 - 5 and make 6 small petals. Round 6 is worked from behind these petals, chain 3, slip stitch around the post of the slip stitch between the next 2 petals around the row. Work Round 7 and change to Color C. Round 8 gives us a pop of color and 8 more large petals. Absolutely stunning so far and who doesn’t love a crocheted flower! Hold on we aren’t done with this block just yet… for Rounds 9 - 11, pay attention to the asterisks and parentheses, [(* - **)]. This block is to be continued.. Blocked measurement is 4.25” square.
Finishing touches - Weave in those ends, block pieces to finished measurements. Don’t forget to save the remaining yarn for future stripes or blocks.
