The 2025 Jimmy Beans Blanket Club

In May’s Kit #5 we will crochet 3 Stripes and 2 Blocks.

Kit #5 - Color E is Herb Garden.

From top to bottom - Block 6 and Block 7

This is the Beachy Keen color pallete, we started at the top with Sage Advice in Kit #1 and Toasted Marshmallow in Kit #2. Kit #3 introduces Clean Slate. Kit #4 is Misty Morning. Kit #5 is Herb Garden!

Green with envy!

This month’s color is Herb Garden, I was hesitant when I saw this color in the lineup, however, all I can say is trust the designer’s vision. It looks great with the other colors.

What’s happening in this month’s kit?

This month we are working with all the colors A-E. We are adding to our stripe panels and previous month’s block as well as creating a new block!

My tips for Kit #5

Using locking stitch markers at the corner stitches might be a good idea, it makes them easier to locate when you pick up the square next month. (or if you have bad vision like I do… LOL!)

Stripe 8 Diamond Texture - We are working into the stitches from Stripe 6 with color E. I would caution you when working Row 3, FPtr around the 5th st from beginning of Row 1, when you work the next single crochet stitches make sure you skip the stitch found behind the FPtr. (Pattern says to leave the sts behind the posts unworked) You can watch the video created by the designer Lena Skvagerson. When blocked Stripe 8 - Color E should measure 24” in length and 3” in width. (Total width of Stripe is now 13”)

Stripe 9 HDC Stripe - Using Color C, we add a quick 3 rows, one row of half double crochets, one row single crochets in horizontal front bars and a final row of half double crochets. Easy peasy and frames Stripe 8 beautifully. When blocked Stripe 9 should measure 24” in length and 1” in width. (Total width of Stripe is now 14”)

Stripe 10 Dotted Granny - This stripe is worked across the last row of Stripe 7 with colors E, C and A. Nothing difficult with this stripe other than take note when the pattern says “do not turn” or “turn”, I messed this up and had to watch the video. Again I’m blaming this on my poor vision, LOL! When blocked Stripe 10 should measure 24” in length and 2” in width. (Total width of Stripe is now 8.25”)

Moving on to some blocks!

Block 6 Continued - This in my opinion, is where Color E - Herb Garden really shines. One quick round frames the lovely flower created last month. Finding a certain row can be tricky, you might have to refer to the previous months pattern instructions to know where that row is or you can look at the picture included on the pattern and get a pretty good idea, however, when in doubt, watch the video. Blocked measurement is 5” square.

Note: There was a revision for this block so make sure you’re working with the updated version.

There’s a new kid on the Block!

Block 7 - This new block was pretty straight forward, Round 6 can be a little tricky when working behind the petals. This is where I decided to place locking stitch markers at the 4 corners to make them easier to identify and keep track of where I was.
Blocked measurement is 5” square.

Finishing touches - At this point I might be sounding like a broken record, however, leaving all those ends until the end can be a little daunting. Weave in those ends, block pieces to finished measurements. You’ll thank me later! Save the remaining yarn for future stripes or blocks.
