Kit 3 - The Road Trip Blanket: Jimmy Beans Blanket Club
Kit #3 - Color C is Clean Slate.
From left to right - Block 3, 4 & 5
This is the Beachy Keen color pallete, we started at the top with Sage Advice in Kit #1 and Toasted Marshmallow in Kit #2. Kit #3 introduces Clean Slate.
Get ready for some serious stitching!
Kits #1 & 2 were relatively easy and then Kit #3 arrives and it’s time to get serious.
What’s happening in this month’s Kit?
This month we are adding to the stripes and blocks we made in the previous months as well as starting a new block. Color C - Clean Slate is rich and delicious and looks absolutely stunning with colors A & B.
My tips for Kit #3
Surely I’m not the only one that can’t remember what’s what on the previous month’s patterns. I suggest keeping them close by!
Stripe 5 - We are working into the stitches from Stripe 3. Row 1 is relatively easy, working into the BLO of the hdc’s. Then enters Row 2 - this one took me 3 attempts to get my tension right without the yarn splitting. The yarn over slip stitch (yo-slst) is not the easiest of stitches to work and my best advice is to take it slowly and be patient. I found that working the stitches with minimal tension while maintaining gauge a little tricky, however, once I got the hang of it things moved along quickly. Oh, did I forget to mention the short rows, don’t let those intimidate you, they’re easy. If you need extra help make sure to watch the video created by the designer Lena Skvagerson. When blocked Stripe 5 - Color C should measure 24” in length and 2.75” in width. (Total width of Stripe is now 8”)
Block 3 continued - This one is a quickie! We are adding one round to Block 3 from Kit #2 with Color C. Blocked measurement is 5” square.
Block 4 continued - We are adding 3 rounds to Block 4 from Kit #2. In this block we work the special stitch “spike dc” which is worked 2 rounds below. Not a difficult stitch, however, watch the video if you need help with locating the stitch 2 rows below. This one is to be continued… Blocked measurement is 4.25” square.
There’s a new block in town!
Block 5 - This block begins with Color A and is quickly joined with Colors B & C. We work into the horizontal back bar (third loop) as well as some BLO and FLO stitches and the always fun treble stitch which I absolutely love! The 7 rounds work up quickly resulting in a stunning block. Blocked measurement is 5” square.
Finishing touches - Weave in those ends, block pieces to finished measurements. Don’t forget to save the remaining yarn for future stripes or blocks.
