The 2025 Jimmy Beans Blanket Club

In July’s Kit #7 we will crochet 2 Stripes and 2 Blocks.

Kit #7 - Color G is Peachy Keen.

Tape a piece of yarn to the label so there’s no chance of getting colors mixed up. So many colors and more to come.

2 Stripes and 2 Blocks.

Block 9 & 10 - from left to right.

This is the Beachy Keen color pallete, we started at the top with Sage Advice in Kit #1 and Toasted Marshmallow in Kit #2. Kit #3 introduces Clean Slate. Kit #4 is Misty Morning. Kit #5 is Herb Garden! Kit #6 is Beach Glass. Kit #7 is Peachy Keen. Please note colors 6 and 7 are not in the correct order on the color swatch shown above. Please refer to your guide for the proper list of colors.

So far so good!

This month’s color is Peachy Keen, it’s a gorgeous soft color that brings a warm look to our blanket. The blanket is working up quickly and we are over half way done. Time sure flies when you’re having fun!

What’s happening in this month’s kit?

This month we are working with our featured color G as well as colors A, B, C, D, E and F. So, I guess I should say it’s a colorful month. We are adding to our striped panel 12 with stripe 13 and 14, as well as creating another 2 new blocks!

My tips for Kit #7

I decided to label my colors in a better way so it’s easier to know which color is which when the pattern refers to color A - G. Placing the remaining yarn in the yarn label was a fail last month and I ended up using the wrong color for my daisy. Thanks to all that reached out to let me know I had messed up :)

Now I’ve decided to tape of piece of yarn to the yarn label for easy reference. What could go wrong?

Stripe 13 Star Stitches - We are working into the stitches of Stripe 12 with color C. I highly recommend watching the video created by the designer Lena Skvagerson if you need help. I found it easier to pull through the 6 loops by pinching the base of the loops and pulling them downward before pulling the hook through. This is a quick 2 row stripe. When blocked Stripe 13 should measure 24” in length and 1” in width. (Total width of Stripe is now 12.25”)

Stripe 14 Rice and Spike Stitches - Using Color G, we are crocheting into the last row of Stripe 13 that we just completed. The rice stitch is created using front and back post double crochets (FPdc- BPdc). These create great texture and a beautiful fabric. We then change to color D and work a few rows of single crochets. Easy Peasy! The spike stitches are then worked with color G. The spike stitch is relatively easy when you figure out where to place the hook in the rows below, again I suggest watching the video. When blocked Stripe 14 should measure 24” in length and 3” in width. (Total width of Stripe is now 15.25”)

Not 1 but 2 new blocks!

Block 9 - For this new block, we will be using several colors beginning with color G, then adding colors D, F and C. This is where the tapping a piece of yarn to the labels as I suggested comes in handy, switching colors and knowing what color corresponds to what letter is a real time saver. I didn’t find this square difficult and the front post clusters are so fun to make. Pay attention to instructions telling you when to fasten off the working yarn and when not to fasten it off, so you can use it in the following rows. Again when in doubt, watch the video. Blocked measurement is 5” square.

Block 10 - This little spiralling number is a real treat loaded with color. We begin with color G and then add colors A, B, D, E and F. The spirals are formed by working half double crochets into the horizontal back bars (third loops). Don’t forget to pull up a long loop and leave it in the back of your work when instructed. You can put a locking stitch marker on the long loop if you’re scared of dropping it.

Finishing touches - Another kit done and it’s time to weave in those ends and block your pieces to the finished measurements. Save the remaining yarn for future stripes or blocks, some colors don’t have much yarn leftover. Fingers crossed that our tension was good and we don’t run out of any of the colors. Especially when you use the wrong color like I did.
