The 2025 Jimmy Beans Blanket Club

In August’s Kit #8 we will crochet 2 Side Sections and 1 Corner Block.

Kit #8 - Color H is Vanilla Ice Cream.

Tape a piece of yarn to the label so there’s no chance of getting colors mixed up. So many colors and more to come.

2 Side Sections - Side Section 1 (top), Side Section 2 (bottom)

1st Corner Block

This is the Beachy Keen color pallete, we started at the top with Sage Advice in Kit #1 and Toasted Marshmallow in Kit #2. Kit #3 introduces Clean Slate. Kit #4 is Misty Morning. Kit #5 is Herb Garden! Kit #6 is Beach Glass. Kit #7 is Peachy Keen. Kit #8 is Vanilla Ice Cream. Please note colors 6 and 7 are not in the correct order on the color swatch shown above. Please refer to your guide for the proper list of colors.

Cables for the win!

This month’s color is Vanilla Ice Cream, a delicious color that makes all the other colors pop!

What’s happening in this month’s kit?

This month we are working with our featured color H as well as colors C, D, E, F and G. We are working 2 Side Sections as well as our 1st Corner Block! The pattern has a note that we could run out of the suggested colors and should be prepared to swap colors if need be. WHAT??? I’m really afraid, because I used the wrong color for a block a few months ago so I feel like I’m doomed. I guess time will tell, what are we waiting for let’s get going. LOL!

My tips for Kit #7

I don’t want to brag but.. this month is where my labelling tip I shared last month comes in really handy. Not sure if you’re like me but, after a few weeks pass, I can’t remember which color is what when it comes time to follow the color changes in the pattern.

Side Section 1 - Using Color H, this fun little 4 row repeat is worked over 8 stitches, producing a beautiful cable twist. FPTR in the 1st skipped stitch on Row 5 is a little tricky to work. You have to work this stitch from behind the FPTR you previously made and it’s not easy to get to, I found pinching the fabric to get the previous FPTR out of the way helped. The other 3 FPTR’s are easy to work. If you haven’t worked a cable like this before, I would recommend watching the video and it will all make sense. Not to worry, you will be really good at it once you’ve made 26 cable twists. LOL!
Blocked measurements Side Section 1 - 40” in length and 2” in width.

Side Section 2 - Using Color H, we are working a 7 stitch cable. The “special stitch” dc-FPTR-tog was new to me, but once I figured it out I was off to the races. I stuck to my 4mm hook when working this one because that’s what I’ve been using all long to meet gauge, however, I had no clue if I was going to meet gauge this time and would have loved a reference mid way or something. So here it is…. after 14.5 V-st cables your work should measure approximately 10” in length, you’ll be on track for 58 V-st cables to reach the 40” after blocking.
Blocked measurements Side Section 2 - 40” in length and 2” in width.

Our 1st Corner Block!

Corner Block 1 - For this 1st Corner Block, we will be using several colors beginning with color G, then adding colors F, C, E and D. This is where tapping a piece of yarn to the labels as I suggested last month comes in handy, switching colors and knowing what color corresponds to what letter is a real time saver. I didn’t find this block difficult to make other than finding the corner stitch at times. You could place a locking stitch marker in the corner stitch (centre stitch of the 3 single crochets used to form the corner) to make it easier. This corner block has all the squish and you won’t be able to resist playing with it. And, guess what?? I didn’t run out of yarn for any of the suggested colors, and I hope you don’t either. Time for a happy dance and some ice cream!
Blocked measurement is 5” square.

Finishing touches - Well, another kit is complete and it’s time to weave in those ends and block your pieces to the finished measurements. Save the remaining yarn for future stripes or blocks. At this point, I would really like to know if we are done with any of the colors. Seeing that some colors don’t have much yarn leftover, and especially for those who might of had to swap colors, will that mean we run the risk of running out of that color if needed for future stripes or blocks!
